A report from Ivanti shows how employees are leveraging technology in the workplace for greater autonomy and flexibility. The report surveyed more than 6,000 office employees and 1,200 IT and cybersecurity professionals in order to gain insights into the modern workforce.
According to the report, more employees admit to the use of AI in 2025 (42%) compared to 2024 (26%). At the same time, nearly one third (32%) of workers keep their use of AI a secret from their employer. This is partially due to employees’ concerns that AI may impact job security, with 30% who use AI worrying their job may be cut and 27% reportedly experiencing impostor syndrome due to AI. 36% admit they use discretion when using AI because they enjoy the “secret advantage” of it. Nevertheless, organizations must consider that widespread, unauthorized use of AI can lead to cyber risks.
With the rise of return-to-office mandates, IT workers are expressing dissatisfaction. 83% of IT professionals consider flexibility as highly valuable to their job, but only 25% have flexible jobs. Furthermore, 64% report feeling pressured to return to the office. Likewise, 54% of Gen Z employees and 53% of millennials would quit a job in exchange for greater workplace flexibility, indicating a generational shift in workplace expectations.
