49% of Americans Hide AI Use from Employers

Data from Laserfiche reveals insights into AI adoption in the workplace. According to the findings, nearly half (49%) of Americans conceal the fact they utilize AI in the workplace. 15% actively avoid informing their superiors.
The reasons behind the secrecy include the fear of being perceived as lazy (16%), risky (15%), or inconsiderate of company policy (16%). When it comes to AI usage in the workplace, many may feel a lack of clarity due to unclear AI policies. Only 36% report clear AI policies and approved tools in their workplace, while one out of 10 consider their workplace’s AI regulation to be “the Wild West.”
Poor clarity around AI guidelines in the workplace can lead to risky employee behaviors. For instance, 46% of employees confess to inputting company data into AI tools, sometimes without knowing if the content is sensitive or confidential.
