The Security Executive Council (SEC) has welcomed Tom Bello, Coral Gehring, Matthew Giese, Bill King, and Tom Mahlik to its faculty of esteemed security experts. SEC subject matter experts and emeritus faculty (former CSOs and CISOs) have excelled in their careers and are eager to transfer their knowledge and competencies to other security leaders.

Tom Bello (emeritus faculty) is a senior risk management and global security professional with 38 years of combined experience in federal law enforcement and corporate security leadership for Exxon Mobil Corporation. At Exxon, he served in a number of senior leadership positions in Global Security around the world. Tom managed the Security Intelligence Response Center (SIRC) and the Security Risk Management Program. Tom’s other roles included Executive Protection Services and the Team Lead of the High Threat Group, where he engineered and facilitated security support for operations in high and severe threat environments, to include Kidnap Response and Country Emergency Evacuation Planning, and Critical Incident Response.

Coral Gehring (subject matter expert faculty) honed her security skills at The Boeing Company, where she began in information technology by leading the way for modernization of Security and Fire IT systems through the successful integration and/or implementation of new and innovative solutions. Later, as manager of the Northwest Boeing Communications Center, she helped develop the concept, implementation plan, and operational stand-up of the Boeing Global Security Operations Center (GSOC). And as the GSOC Senior Operations Manager she further standardized emergency dispatch operations, Central Alarm Monitoring for classified areas and critical event notification processes for security leaders across the Boeing enterprise.

Matt Giese (emeritus faculty) was formerly the Vice President and Global Head of Internal Investigations for Fidelity Investments, where he and his team investigated potential violations of company policies and other improprieties involving employees, contractors and vendors in the
U.S. and internationally, with a focus on HR policies, information security, misappropriation, compliance policies and regulations. Matt has demonstrated expertise in developing proactive and reactive investigation strategies and plans; assessing internal/external fraud risks and
corresponding control gaps and solutions; evaluating insider threat prevention, detection and oversight; reporting of investigative results, operational metrics and KPIs; and transparently communicating results to executive leaders.

Bill King (subject matter expert faculty) boasts over 40 years of military and contract security experience. Bill spent 27 years in the US Marine Corps where he served as an infantryman, reconnaissance specialist, drill instructor and Counterintelligence Agent. Bill has held various
management positions within the contract security business, ranging from Security Officer to Vice President/General Manager. He has a great deal of experience working with large multi- facility clients, corporate campuses, industrial and government facilities and is skilled in business development, officer training, fire and life safety training and security program design.

Tom Mahlik (emeritus faculty) is former Director of Corporate Security Programs for Delta Air Lines, where he led an integrated portfolio of core security programs focused on facility risk assessment, access control, employees at risk, aggressive intruder mitigation and the development of adaptive enterprise security systems and technologies. He previously served as Corporate Director of Global Security Services for the MITRE Corporation and as a business unit security Director at the Raytheon Company. Before entering the private sector, Tom held 25 years of domestic, international, and multi-disciplined (counterintelligence, counterterrorism, cyber and criminal) field and agency level leadership positions as a special agent with NCIS.
