Multiple Suicides Reported in US Cyber Operations Forces

Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported five individuals associated with the Cyber Operations Forces (including U.S. Cyber Command) committed suicide. According to Bloomberg’s report, increased operations and heightened stress may have contributed to the series of tragedies. These deaths bring up concerns about the mental wellbeing of military hackers in an era of rising workloads and foreign conflicts.
Three of the deaths were acknowledged in an email to staff, according to sources familiar with the matter. The other two deaths were shown through public record.
Since the suicides occurred in such a brief timeline, they have been linked as a “suicide cluster.”
At least one of the five deaths are under active investigation by the U.S. military.
