Four men rammed their car into an upmarket jewelry store in central Paris on Monday, smashing the shop window and stealing $2.6 million (two million Euros) in jewelry, according to AFP.

Recent jewelry heists in Cannes, France, have prompted an increase in security for the Toronto International Film Festival movie premieres, to ensure celebrities’ jewelry, often on loan from major brands, are safely returned to their insured owners.

Only three days after one of the largest diamond thefts in history, two armed robbers held up a luxury watch store in Cannes, only a half-mile from the site of the diamond heist.

Months after the original heist, police have detained 31 suspects across three nations during an early-morning sweep Wednesday. 

A group of thieves took only 11 minutes to escape an airport with hundreds of millions of dollars-worth of diamonds and precious metals.

Left alone in a car for 13 minutes, the $400,000 worth of loose diamonds were missing when the visiting wholesaler returned to his vehicle.
