Charles County Public Schools in Maryland has added new active shooter detection technology. The Omnilert solution is a visual gun detection platform that notifies law enforcement if weapons are detected.

CCPS will use the system in addition to existing security measures to improve school safety. K-12 schools across the country have implemented similar systems to protect their campuses from active shooters.

CCPS plans to have the system activated systemwide by the end of the current school year. CCPS is home to 27,598 students located across 22 elementary and 9 middle schools, 7 high schools and 5 education centers.
