Security and data privacy deficiencies are the top internal roadblock to information technology (IT) modernization, according to the 2022 Intelligent Technology Report from Insight Enterprises, Inc.

In an IDG survey commissioned by Insight, 400 IT leaders ranked the main internal hinderances when it comes to organizational IT modernization. The top concerns were security shortcomings (40%), shadow IT (36%) and competing internal priorities (35%). As organizations strive to balance security and business transformation, progress can be stalled by insufficient data privacy practices.

Adding to these roadblocks were the additional responsibilities assumed by IT teams during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to their usual duties, 78% of IT leaders reported taking on new cybersecurity tasks in 2021.

Looking forward to the rest of the year, 51% of IT leaders named security as their top organizational priority when it comes to cloud integration.
