More than 90 percent of companies in both the US and UK feel their current password protection measures and guidelines provide adequate protection for their business. 

The report, Password Practices 2019: for US and UK businesses, reveals that 90.7 percent of US organizations and 98 percent of UK organizations have implemented complex password practices. Ninety-three percent of small companies in the US and 95 percent in the UK feel secure with current password protection methods. However, password practices reveal that they aren't very secure:

In the US: 

  • Only 25.3 percent check against common password lists.
  • 14.7 percent check against rainbow tables.
  • Only 23.9 percent check against password complexity algorithms.

In the UK: 

  • Only 33.7 percent check against common password lists.
  • Only 18.7 percent check against rainbow tables.
  • Only 22.4 percent check against password complexity algorithms.

Number of apps requiring individual passwords: 

In the US:

  • 41.4 percent - 25 and under apps
  • 36.7 percent - 26-100 apps
  • 12.7 percent - up to 200 apps
  • 8 percent - up to 300 apps
  • 1.3 percent - don't know

In the UK:

  • 31 percent - 25 and under apps
  • 60 percent - 26-100 apps
  • 4.7 percent - up to 200 apps
  • 3 percent - up to 300 apps
  • 1.3 percent - don't know
