Member colleges and school districts can apply for the Alertus Grant beginning February 1

Alertus Technologies announced a partnership with the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) to offer an emergency preparedness grant to Texas schools in need of enhancing their safety and notification systems. The grant, valued up to $75,000, will be offered to one qualified member of the TCEA.
Michigan State University has chosen Marlon Lynch to serve as the university’s next chief of police. Lynch, an MSU alum who has worked in law enforcement for nearly 25 years, will also hold the title of vice president for public safety.
Denison University announces David Rose will join the university as Director of Campus Safety. Rose is a retired captain of The Ohio State University police division and brings more than 30 years of campus safety experience to his position.
The town of Oxford, Connecticut and its public schools will receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services to create a security operations center (SOC) with three personnel monitoring the district's four school campuses.
The University of Florida Police Department is installing license plate recognition technology on campus and will partner with the Gainesville Police Department and Alachua County Sheriff’s Office that is currently using the technology to share information for aiding in investigations, responding to incidents, etc.
Brigham Young University (BYU) announced the formation of the new BYU Security Department, which will function separately from and alongside the BYU Police Department. The BYU Security Department will oversee on-campus security for buildings, such as the Museum of Art and the Harold B. Lee Library, as well as campus properties, such as the Motion Picture Studio and West Campus (former Provo High School). The department will also have responsibility for campus parking.
New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Chancellor Jim Malatras announced the launch of a State University of New York System (SUNY) system-wide COVID-19 case tracker dashboard. The centralized dashboard will provide real time, up-to-date information on COVID-19 cases, testing, and quarantine and isolation space availability across SUNY's 64 colleges and universities to more efficiently monitor, respond to, and contain the virus.
Tennessee's 2020-2021 budget includes $38 million in capital maintenance across higher education institutions from the Higher Education Capital Maintenance Fund and $2 million non-recurring statewide security grants.
