I just came out of a meeting addressing campus lockdowns and mass notification when my phone started buzzing. The Broward County Sheriff Department’s Alertify message stared me in the face – Active Shooter at my daughter’s school.
During the 2015–16 school year, the rate of violent incidents was higher in middle schools (27 incidents per 1,000 students) than it was in high schools (16 incidents) or primary schools (15 incidents).
The Horry County, SC school board approved 18 armed security officers who will patrol the 15 schools that Horry County police previously patrolled as well as three new schools scheduled to be open by next year.
