Laurie R. Doran has been appointed Acting Director of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP), effective June 6, 2021. Doran will take over for Director Jared Maples. 

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Managing Director and Chief Security Officer Stephen D. Baker, CPP, and his entire security function provided strategy and risk leadership with ongoing risk assessments and mitigation strategies at the State Street Corporation. This allowed the company to continue its global operations, placed workers at ease and supported State Street clients’ needs without disruption throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anyone with access to your organization — employee, contractor, former employee, etc. — poses a potential risk to the enterprise. So, what is insider threat; who should own an insider risk mitigation program within the enterprise; and most importantly, how can security leaders assess and mitigate the risk?

The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), and Safe and Sound Schools (SASS) have partnered to release updated guidance on conducting armed assailant drills in schools. The author organizations represent key stakeholders in school safety and crisis planning, preparedness, and implementation. This includes school-employed mental health professionals, school security and law enforcement, school administrators, other educators, and families. 

ADM and its security team, including Kevin Wujek, Insider Threat Coordinator, tapped into existing data, both inside the company and publicly available, to enable informed decision-making and real-time insight into the company’s COVID-19 pandemic response plan including contact tracing, location insight and information, and facility occupancy.

To maintain a unified security and safety operation during closure, many museums and cultural heritage institutions have relied on tried-and-true security and risk management practices, and repurposed their time and energy to reassess, monitor and explore additional risk-mitigation measures to safely reopen and welcome the public back through their doors.

Director Jared M. Maples of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) discussed the impact of US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) grant programs on the ability of New Jersey communities to combat threats and prepare for emergencies when he testified before the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery on April 28. The hearing, “State and Local Perspectives on DHS Preparedness Grant Programs,” examined the critical role federal grants play in security and resiliency planning, especially as new tactics and events continue to alter the threat landscape in both the physical and cyber realms.
