Under a new bill awaiting Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker's signature, all Illinois police officers would be required to wear a body camera by 2025.

State lawmakers approved the move as part of an overhaul to Illinois' criminal justice system. In addition to the body camera mandate, the bill will make it easier for people to file complaints against police officers.

While the Chicago Tribune reports that most law enforcement and municipalities support the move for body cameras, the question of how departments will pay for the cameras and manage storage remain a concern. In addition, questions right now surrounding penalties and compliance remain as well.
