St. Louis, Missouri Mayor Lyda Krewson is considering a proposal to use video surveillance airplanes to monitor St. Louis streets to fight crime.

Krewson met this week with the head of a company as privacy advocates protested outside, says a news report. The company uses small airplanes, filled with many cameras inside, to fly above cities and capture footage. In 2016, the company used planes to fly over the city of Baltimore to collect video for police, says the report. However, the program was shut down after residents were expressing their concerns. 

Krewson says she’s open to hearing methods and ideas on how to address crime, but she is hesitant as privacy becomes an issue, the report says.
