BlackOut! Your Resilience Plan and the Grid

April 13, 2015

About once every four days, part of the nation’s power grid – a system whose failure could leave millions in the dark – is struck by a cyber or physical attack, according to a recent USA Today analysis and article.

Among the report’s findings is this statement, “Transformers and other critical equipment often sit in plain view, protected by chain-link fencing and a few cameras. Suspects have never been identified in connection with many of the 300-plus attacks since 2011.

One of the most severe attacks was “a coordinated attack… on PG&E’s Metcalf Substation severing six underground fiber-optic lines before firing 100 rounds of ammunition…causing more than $15 million in damage.” This unprecedented attack put all enterprises partnering with PG&E for their energy needs at risk.

The Security 500 West Conference recognizes this critical issue and is pleased to announce that Mr. Anil Suri, Vice President and Chief Risk and Audit Officer at Pacific Gas and Electric Company will keynote addressing “Risk-based Security Management”

Every security leader has a vital role in ensuring resilience for their enterprise and are heavily reliant on the power grid. If you have not already registered to attend the May 21st Security 500 West Conference in Palo Alto, you may want to do so at www.security500.com.
