More than $1 million worth of jewels due to be lent to movie stars at the Cannes film festival were stolen from a hotel room in the French Riviera town, a police source said.
The jewels were in the safe of the room rented by an employee of Chopard, said MSNBC.
The incident at the hotel in central Cannes took place either late Thursday or early this morning as the festival got under way.
