United States Observes the 25th Anniversary of 9/11
25 years ago today, the United States was the target of a terrorist attack. Today, tribute events are taking place all across the country, including in New York City and Washington D.C.
Earlier this week, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani disclosed previously unreleased records regarding the air quality following the attack, revealing city officials of the time knew Ground Zero conditions were unsafe for breathing despite contrary assurances to the public. This anniversary, the New York City remembrance is introducing a seventh moment of silence to honor the thousands who passed due to conditions linked to the exposure of harmful ash and debris.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum recognizes that on this solemn anniversary, there are approximately 100 million Americans that are too young to recall this day. The organization is encouraging people across the country to remember this event in order to pass on its legacy to the younger generation.
The organization states, ”As we commemorate this anniversary, a new generation will learn about the unimaginable loss we experienced and the inspiring stories of bravery, compassion, unity, and service that we witnessed, and have rippled through the decades.”
