Why Bridging Siloes Doesn’t Need to Be Complicated
Listen to Bruce McIndoe, President of McIndoe Risk Advisory LLC, in this podcast episode.

In this episode of Lock It Down with Security Magazine, I had the privilege of speaking with Bruce McIndoe once more about bridging siloes. Last year, I interviewed McIndoe, President of McIndoe Risk Advisory LLC, about the dangers of business siloes and how overcoming them can benefit the security of an organization.
Something that intrigued me in my previous interview with McIndoe was his emphasis on bridging siloes rather than breaking them. So, I took the opportunity to ask what made the distinction so essential.
From his experience in managing siloes, he shared that “when you talk to people about breaking them down, they feel like they're going to get flattened.” This negative perception of breaking down siloes can impact the organization's ability to solve the siloes in the first place. “It doesn't hit well,” he stated.
When discussing bridging siloes rather than breaking them down, McIndoe explained that what employees tend to respond better. He asserts that in conversations about bridging siloes, employees tend to hear “your silo is going to remain your expertise, your domain.”
Business siloes can feel like an insurmountable challenge to some. In my conversation with McIndoe, we discuss why that doesn't have to be the case.
