Booking.com experienced a data breach and is warning customers that their information may have been exposed.
- What happened? The platform discovered suspicious activity in which unauthorized third parties were able to access customer booking information. The company worked to contain the issue, change reservation pin numbers and notify guests.
- What information was compromised? While the company states that financial information was not impacted, other booking information may have been compromised. This could include names, emails, phone numbers and addresses. Any data shared with the accommodation could also be at risk.
- How many customers were impacted? At this time, a spokesperson for the organization has declined to say how many customers have been impacted.
Headquartered in Amsterdam, the platform lists more than 2 million properties across the globe.
