Trump’s Former Counter-Terrorism Official Investigated Over Alleged Leaks

President Donald Trump’s former top counter-terrorism official, Joe Kent, is under investigation for alleged leaks of classified information. The investigation began prior to Kent’s resignation this week, in which he cited the Trump Administration’s handling of the Iran War as a primary purpose for leaving. He criticized the choice to engage in conflict with Iran, stating the country “posed no imminent threat to our nation” and asserted “it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
As the Iran conflict unfolds, cyber incidents have resulted, such as the attack against United States medtech company Stryker and the potential, prevented attack against a Polish nuclear facility.
According to Semafor, which broke the story, the investigation alleges Kent “improperly shared classified information.” Four individuals with direct knowledge of the probe informed Semafor of the situation, and according to one individual, the probe predates Kent’s resignation by months.
The FBI’s Criminal Division is heading the investigation.
