A new report from Seemplicity reveals that vulnerability remediation delays are primarily caused by breakdowns in communication and team collaboration. Delays in vulnerability remediation occur in 91% of organizations, and 1 in 5 organizations require four or more days to fix critical flaws.
According to the findings, 85% of organizations think they have strong cross-team collaboration. However, the report suggests that organizations are more confident in their collaborative efforts than they should be, as many rely on self-assignment or manual task assignment. This contributes to the communication breakdowns, which are the greatest cited reason of remediation delays. The report asserts that believed collaboration strength conceals deeper structural issues.
61% of organizations measure success by resolved vulnerabilities; however, more strategic metrics are gaining traction. This includes fewer breaches (54%) and mean time to remediation (49%).
Despite almost all organizations ranking structured prioritization models as the most effective, less than 20% of organizations use them. The report emphasizes the gap between intention and execution, indicating that mindsets may be shifting, but operations are still working to catch up.
