Armed with pickaxes, masked robbers held up the California State Mining and Mineral Museum on Friday, stealing an estimated $2 million in jewels and gold.
Convenience stores (c-stores) are unique commercial properties in that they are usually open 24-hours, are largely cash-based businesses, can be operated by one clerk, and are conveniently located for quick in-and-out shopping, according to Chris McGoey, who specializes in security at these businesses.
The stolen items included 200 bicycles, 200 strollers, 100 golf clubs, TV sets, jewelry and laptop computers, along with more than 50 garage door openers.
Police have arrested a homeless man in connection with a violent robbery of an elderly man in a Bronx apartment building earlier this month and that was captured on surveillance video. Cameron Roebuck, 20, faces robbery charges.
