All Hands on Deck! School Security Technology and its Convergence with the Learning Environment

The convergence of technology and physical security systems in K12 schools has inspired school districts to  evolve and explore new ways to improve the safety systems used to protect students and teachers on school properties. The evolve and explore approach comes at a time when school administrators across the nation are fighting an uphill battle to fund basic improvements in their facilities, in addition to hiring dedicated employees to work traditional school jobs.  Regardless of the challenges school districts face, they have a responsibility to do as much as possible to keep students and staff safe.  As a result, many districts are assigning the use and monitoring  of security technology to employees who are not part of a security department. Guy Grace, Director of Security and Emergency Planning with with the Littleton Public School District, will share his district’s experiences, in addition to his work with PASS, the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After attending this Webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Identify some technology systems and practices that are used to better monitor and manage security on a campus that also narrow a school's safety and security gaps.
  • Recognize how security technology can be used by different work disciplines within the campus environment, from the superintendent staff to the individual  campus environment to enhance a school district’s security posture.
  • Describe best practices to train different work disciplines on the operation and monitoring of  security technology and procedures.
  • Understand and review the various methods to train students on safety and security.
