A former executive at an airplane repair company with government contracts pleaded guilty to recklessly endangering the safety of aircraft, according to the Justice Department.

For the first time since 2008 or so when crime decreased yearly, U.S. residents age 12 or older experienced an estimated 5.8 million violent victimizations and 17.1 million property victimizations, in both cases a significant jump, based on data from the annual National Crime Victimization Survey.

The Massachusetts governor contends that the New England Compounding Center responsible for the tainted steroid misled state officials and was operating outside of the bounds of its pharmacy license.

At the Clery Center's 25th Anniversary Event, speakers discussed a variety of topics, including sexual violence reporting on campuses, threat assessments and knocking down the "cylinders of excellence" (aka silos) in organizations.

While traveling abroad, a doctor had an unencrypted laptop containing information on roughly 3,500 patients stolen and this incident lead to a million dollar plus fine.

This week members of the OSAC leadership and RISC teams again found themselves on the road.  They converged on Philadelphia together with thousands other security-focused professionals for the 58th Annual ASIS International Seminar.  David Schnorbus, Executive Director; Peter Ford, Deputy-Executive Director; Anna Rapp, Jennifer Hardwick, and Jacqueline Schools of our  RISC team – and I – greeted interested attendees who passed by our OSAC booth.  

Who did you meet at ASIS International last week? Between the editors, publisher and sales department of Security magazine, we walked the show floor a hundred times over and probably still didn’t get to everyone. But, just to be thorough, here’s the rundown of who I met at ASIS, and what we’re looking forward to for the rest of the year. 

From high schools to universities, as students come back to campus, so do called in or written threats of explosives.

Lack of protection of chip and PIN cards and card skimming are raising losses.

Cyber security is on the forefront of current ASIS president Eduard Emde's to-do list, and 2013 president Geoff Craighead plans to continue Emde's international efforts, as well as the industry's standard and certification requirements.
