SIA Government Summit – SignUp NOW

April 21, 2009

Three influential, inside-the-Beltway officials, including two members of Congress, will deliver keynote addresses at the Security Industry Association’s 2009 Government Summit on June 2-3.

The Government Summit annually provides security industry professionals with information and insight about the role of government in the electronic and physical security business. This year, speakers and panels of experts will address more than a dozen topics, including identity management, grant acquisition and the availability of economic stimulus funds. The following officials are scheduled to deliver keynote addresses:

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md.

Cummings chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, which gives him oversight of several security initiatives, including the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program. He also serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif.

Issa is the ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, a position that allows him to oversee the General Services Administration, as well as issues related to identity management, federal contracting and government spending. He is also a member of the House Judiciary Committee.

Richard Skinner

Skinner is the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security. In this position, Skinner watches over, among other things, the agency’s spending. He also serves on the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, which coordinates the distribution of funds from the economic stimulus package.

This year’s event will also feature two special guests: Fred Barnes, executive editor of The Weekly Standard and co-host of Fox News’ “Beltway Boys,” and Donna Brazile, one of the country’s foremost political strategists and the campaign manager for Al Gore’s run for the presidency in 2000. Barnes and Brazile will engage in what is sure to be a lively debate about public policy issues and the new administration.

The Government Summit is to be held at the Embassy Suites Washington D.C. – Convention Center Hotel. A reception is scheduled for Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m., and the event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. the following morning. Discounted early bird registration is available until April 30.

More information is available by contacting Tom O’Connor, SIA’s government relations representative, at (703) 647-8483 or toconnor@siaonline.org.
