Video-Based Critical Infrastructure And Public Space Surveillance Solutions

September 27, 2007

With VistaScape Security Systems joining Siemens Building Technologies (SBT), its name will retire October 1, but its legacy and industry-leading SiteIQ video analytic platform will continue as part of a new and comprehensive set of solutions created to help customers secure and monitor critical infrastructure and public spaces. “Making its U.S. debut, SiveillanceTM is our new global brand that teams VistaScape’s video analytics and SBT’s intelligent video and security portfolio,” says Jens Wegmann, President and Global Division Head of Security Systems at Siemens Building Technologies in Zug, Switzerland. “With this move we are not only able to address the intelligent video market standalone, but have the unique capability to combine SiveillanceTM with our recently acquired command and control system from NOVOtec. This combination allows state-of-the-art incident and emergency management with a new dimension of situational awareness all the way up to C4I applications.”

“Over the last several months we have been working to align the organization and technology platforms, and take advantage of logical synergies and strategic benefits. Through the new approach our scope is enriched to address all facets of the security chain: prevention, protection, response and recovery. Under the SiveillanceTM flag we are going to market with highly-developed surveillance solutions ready for the current and emerging security and safety needs of the public at large,” adds Wegmann.

To deliver Siveillance solutions globally, Siemens has organized centers of competence in U.S. and Germany and formalized development ties to the Siemens Corporate Research center in Princeton, New Jersey. The result is a set of solutions that specifically meet the expanding security and surveillance requirements of transportation infrastructure including ports, airports and tunnels, as well as sports venues, oil and gas, energy facilities, campuses and other public and private spaces.

“Siveillance represents a real global tour de force,” says PJ Lynch, General Manager, Global Center of Competence for Intelligent Video. “We are combining proven, innovative technologies, accomplished software developers and systems integrators to deliver higher levels of security more effectively and efficiently to our customers.” According to Lynch, the viability of the concept is being demonstrated right now: “We are currently implementing SiveillanceTM solutions for Dalian Bonded Port in China and one of the largest public housing systems in the U.S. Our customers are setting new expectations in regard to managing security and we are confident we can exceed them with the solutions SiveillanceTM brings to market.”

Building Technologies, an operating group of Siemens, combines offerings for security and life safety and building automation within one company as a service provider and systems integrator and as a manufacturer of respective products. By virtue of the unique combination of these business sectors, the company occupies a leading position worldwide. The Siemens group is part of Siemens Switzerland Ltd, Zurich (Switzerland) and consists further of Siemens Building Technologies GmbH & Co oHG, Erlangen (Germany), Siemens Building Technologies Inc., Buffalo Grove, Ill. (USA), their subsidiaries and affiliates and all significant Siemens activities in the field of building technologies. The company totaled sales of 4.8 billion euros according to U.S. GAAP in the 2006 fiscal year (September 30) and currently employs a workforce of 28,000 in 51 countries.
