Robots are here and it’s not a gimmick. As in many industries, the introduction of machine learning, computer vision and robotics is changing the paradigm of security and facility teams.
The global market for security robotics will grow at a compound annual rate of 20 percent over the next five years to reach a total market value of $2.8 billion by 2023, according to an IDC Market Spotlight report titled, “Extending the Capabilities of Human Security Officers With Modern Robotics,” written by John Santagate, research director, service robots for IDC.
Middle and high school students feel safer with security officers and a moderate level of security camera use outside of their schools, but a greater deployment of cameras inside school buildings makes them feel less safe, according to a school climate survey of more than 54,000 students from nearly 100 schools in Maryland, published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.
Data security isn’t just a software issue. It’s far more physical than you think. While the discussions around cybersecurity awareness are primarily centered around workforce awareness, firewalls, passwords and mysterious black boxes, it’s important to note that a staggering amount of security breaches don’t involve logins, passwords or code at all. They involve people, hardware and a deafening lack of preparedness. In the age of all things cyber, are we dropping the ball when it comes to the physical threat?
47% of emergency decision-makers said severe and extreme weather events are their leading concern when it comes to emergency communications and response, outpacing other events such as active shooters (23%), cybersecurity attacks (13%), IT outages (10%) and workplace violence (6%).
A patient at TriStar Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tenn., was charged with aggravated assault after police say he cut a security officer at the hospital.
