Listen to Maureen Rush, VP for Public Safety at U Penn, talk university policing and avoiding security career burnout
As one of the first 100 women police officers in the Philadelphia Street Patrol Unit, Maureen Rush knows about the challenges and importance of breaking down barriers for women in security. Since her start in 1976, Rush's law enforcement career has spanned everything from overseeing the largest private police department in Pennsylvania and managing victim support services at the University of Pennsylvania (U Penn).
In Security's latest episode of The Security Podcasts, Assistant Editor Madeline Lauver sits down Maureen Rush, who recently "semi-retired" from her role as Vice President for Public Safety and Superintendent of Police at U Penn, to discuss what it takes to be a successful security leader in higher education; the many facets of her more than four decades working in the security field; and opening doors for women in law enforcement.
