Florida police department installs emergency response technology

Two police officers partake in ALERT demonstration

The Coconut Creek Police Department (CCPD) has installed Active Law Enforcement Response Technology (ALERT) in the Florida town, aiming to connect businesses and local infrastructure directly with law enforcement in the event of an emergency.

The CCPD presented the ALERT system to community members in an online demonstration and informational session. The program was led by Coconut Creek Chief of Police Albert A. (Butch) Arenal, Lieutenant Scott Slavin and Lee Mandel, CEO of ALERT creator IntraLogic Solutions.

During emergencies, the ALERT software immediately connects with cameras, giving police access to live surveillance feeds. ALERT also provides police with building floorplans and control of electronic door locks, access control systems and PA systems. This technology, originally developed for school safety, is now available for businesses, houses of worship, schools and event venues and is triggered during any emergency: from fires and break-ins to health emergencies and active shooter situations.

“The ALERT technology allows us to have critical information quickly. This gives us greater situational awareness and reduces response times dramatically. Saving time saves lives. Our goal is to have all our local businesses, event venues, schools and government buildings connected with us,” said Coconut Creek Chief of Police Albert A. (Butch) Arenal.

Coconut Creek's ALERT system was made possible by a School Safety Grant the CCPD received in 2020.
