Ticketless England fans breach Wembley Stadium

Ticketless England fans forced their way into Wembley Stadium ahead of the Euro 2020 final, breaking down barriers and overpowering security staff outside and inside the stadium.

According to reports, security staff were overwhelmed as fans surged into the stadium, stairs and near the entrance, and a number of people reportedly opened security doors near the turnstiles. A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said, "We are dealing with an incident that occurred tat the outer security perimeter area of the stadium with support from police. Safety measures were quickly activated in the relevant areas and there were no security breaches of people without tickets inside the stadium."

However, the Metropolitan Police said it was working with Wembley's security staff to prevent further breaches at the stadium. A Met spokesperson said, “Earlier this afternoon there was a breach of security at Wembley Stadium, which resulted in a small number of people getting into the stadium without a ticket. We will also support action by Wembley Stadium officials to identify those without tickets and eject them.”

Chaos also ensued earlier in the day when King Cross station in central London was evacuated after excited soccer fans set off flared just outside the terminal. Smoke from the flares drifted inside the station and activated the alarms. British Transport Police said officers were working with train operators "to ensure the continuation of services and to ensure the continuation of services and to ensure everyone can travel safely."
