President Donald Trump announced in a tweet that he will appoint acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf to take over the role on a permanent basis. Under the Trump administration, the department, has had numerous spots within the organization vacant or unfilled.
Wolf has been acting secretary of DHS since late 2019. There has been no confirmed secretary at DHS since April 2019 when former Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned.
Wolf was confirmed by the Senate as under secretary for the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans almost immediately before becoming acting secretary of the full department.
