Fall protection has once again topped the list of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) most-cited workplace-safety violations, according to a report from the Society for Human Resource Management.

The top 10 most frequently cited workplace-safety violations for fiscal year 2013 are as follows:

1. Fall Protection: 8,241 violations (2012 had 7,250.)
2. Hazard Communication: 6,156 violations (2012: 4,696)
3. Scaffolding: 5,423 (2012: 3,814)
4. Respiratory Protection: 3,879 (2012: 2,371)
5. Electrical (wiring): 3,452 violations (2012: 1,744 – this was ranked as the 8^th most frequently cited violation in 2012.)
6. Powered Industrial Trucks: 3,340 violations (2012: 1,993 – this was ranked 7^th in the 2012 report.)
7. Ladders: 3,311 (2012: 2,310 – this was ranked 5^th in 2012.)
8. Lockout/Tagout: 3,254 (2012: 1,572 – this was ranked 9^th in 2012.)
9. Electrical (General): 2,745 (2012: 1,332 violations – this was ranked 10^th in 2012.)
10. Machine Guarding: 2,701 (2012: 2,097 – this was ranked 6^th in 2012.)

While the standards being violated are not a surprise, the number of violations for all 10 of these most-cited standards has increased significantly from 2012.
