Las Vegas will get a new emergency operations center that will benefit the region, thanks to a $570,000 grant award.

The Las Vegas Emergency Operations Center, will serve Clark County and the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Mesquite and Boulder City, as well as the Clark County School District, local private sector utilities and businesses that comprise the community's critical infrastructure. The center will be staffed jointly by the governmental entities and will work with public safety programs, including 911 communications dispatch and training facilities.

Funding for the center will come from the Emergency Operations Center Grant Program, a congressionally directed funding source that originates from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The center will be part of a larger project, the Southern Nevada Regional Public Safety Complex. It is seen as an essential way to coordinate and continue government operations in major disasters or emergencies.
