Symantec, the maker of security and data storage software, is moving into the smartphone market.

The company, which makes Norton security software for personal computers, announced its "Norton Everywhere" initiative, which includes Norton security products for Android devices and Windows Mobile phones.

"We are entering a new era where non-PC devices are exploding in numbers, which means more opportunity for cybercriminals," Janice Chaffin, president of Symantec's consumer business unit, said in a statement. "It's becoming more and more critical for consumers to be protected beyond their PCs."
