4 Data Security Incidents to Know About (February 2026)
Poor data security comes with consequences, and not just consequences for the entity protecting said data — but for interconnected partners and the individuals the data is associated to, as well. February 2026 saw several data incidents that provide a stark reminder to this reality.
Security magazine reviews four data security events that occurred last month, some of which had a widespread impact.
1. Epstein Files Sensitive Data Leak
Inadequate redactions in a released batch of files related to Jeffrey Epstein leaked sensitive information such as names and email addresses. Around 100 potential victims were exposed, and some potential victims had nude photos leaked.
Moreover, it was found that raw code was accessible in some released emails, allowing certain redacted information to be reconstructed and viewable.

2. Conduent Data Breach Updates
While this data breach occurred in October 2024 and was discovered in January 2025, recent developments have brought the story back into the spotlight.
Customers of the organization have begun coming forward, announcing data breaches of their own in relation to this event, such as Volvo Group North America revealing 17,000 individuals may have been exposed.
Furthermore, the Office of the Attorney General of Texas recently began investigating Conduent and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), one of the organizations impacted customers, to determine compliance with expected security measures.

3. Data Leak Exposing Global Leaders
Abu Dhabi Finance Week (ADFW), a financial summit, exposed 700 passports and identification cards in an unprotected cloud server. Global leaders and executives were among the exposed individuals, including Anthony Scaramucci, United States investor and former White House communications director.

4. French National Bank Account Registry Breach
Fichier National des Comptes Bancaires et Assimilés (FICOBA), the French national bank account registry, was breached in late January 2026. Potentially 1.2 million accounts may have been compromised.
