The U.S. government has shut down as of 12:01 am on October 1, 2025. As of November 5th, the shutdown is still in effect. This marks the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
According to AP News, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that roughly 750,000 federal employees could be furloughed each day of the shutdown.
The shutdown has led to increased travel wait times as TSA workers and air traffic controllers enter their second month without pay. The shutdown also currently threatens access to SNAP benefits for over 40 million Americans across the country.
