Comprehensive Strategic Security Certificate Program

July 8, 2009

Henley-Putnam University, the accredited online institution specializing in the field of strategic security, now offers students a certificate in strategic security–related disciplines such as intelligence analysis, security management and intelligence and counterterrorism profiling. Strategic security is an emerging multidisciplinary approach to understanding security at the local, national, and global level.

“Over the past ten years, we’ve seen an emergence of people interested in becoming intelligence, counterterrorism and security professionals,” said Michael Corcoran, PhD, Henley-Putnam University president and former U.S. Secret Service agent. “The new certificate program is ideal for those looking to explore these various professions.”

According to Henley-Putnam University representatives, the new, flexible certificate program was designed for students to gain academic credentials through accredited courses as they develop skills that can be applied to their future careers. Students will leave the program with increased value, marketable experience, and potential to earn more income in the field.

“Certificate students have access to the same expert instructors, the same format as our regular courses, and the ability to apply credits should they decide to earn a degree,” added Dr. Corcoran. “It’s a great opportunity for interested students to build their resumes and gain expertise as they decide which path to pursue.”

Students may choose from seven certificate options offered through the program, including:

•           Intelligence Analysis

•           Security Management

•           Intelligence and Counterterrorism Profiling

•           Executive Protection

•           Counterterrorism Studies

•           Intelligence Collection

•           Strategic Intelligence

Henley-Putnam curriculums help students to develop many important skills to improve their chances of securing positions/advancement in government agencies, law enforcement agencies, the private defense sector, NGOs, think tanks, the military, and the protection/security field. Students who complete the certificate program and have sufficient work experience may go on to become intelligence analysts; counterterrorism specialists; corporate, private or federal security professionals; and many other professions within the Strategic Security arena.

In addition to its certificate program, Henley-Putnam offers bachelors and masters degree programs in Intelligence Management, Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies, and the Management of Personal Protection. The university also offers a doctorate degree in Strategic Security.
