Schlage Web-based Access Control

January 24, 2008

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies (NYSE:IR) today announced that it will launch its new BrightBlue by Schlage web-based access control system at the ISC West Conference in April. Uniquely, BrightBlue lets users access, monitor and manage their system from any computer running a standard web browser. Designed for applications with 1-32 doors, such as small commercial buildings, K-12 schools and institutions, BrightBlue is the most intuitive access control system on the market today.

The new BrightBlue system’s plug-and-play design makes configuration easy and the embedded application eliminates the need for special software or a dedicated PC.   When implemented with Schlage wireless and VIP wired locks, this simple online access control system does not require a reader interface and other door hardware, resulting in savings of hundreds of dollars per door.

“With the BrightBlue by Schlage solution, any user can have simplified control of who goes when and where because they interact with BrightBlue in the same way they do with any web page on the Internet,” affirms Gary D’Aries, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies vice president, Schlage software and controllers. “Anyone can use the BrightBlue solution to make access control an effortless part of their busy day.”

The BrightBlue by Schlage system uses state-of-the-art embedded intelligence technology. The system application is embedded on the control panel, which is network-ready and connects easily to the user’s present network. Once installed, authorized users at the school, business or facility can use any networked online computer to access and manage their system. With easy to use configuration wizards and help tips, even novice computer users can set up and navigate their access control system. Adding and deleting personnel, setting up doors and assigning access based on time schedules is straightforward.

Three log-on levels, including User, Operator and Administrator, provide different sets of access rights to the system, assuring that system users will access only the functions management wants them to manage or view. All user ID’s and passwords are protected with security encryption, providing safe access to monitor, control and manage sensitive personnel data, transactions and activities. Since the controller is built on a Linux operating system, BrightBlue is very stable and sheltered from external threats.

With over 70 percent of all access control systems being 1-25 door applications (J.P. Freeman, 2004), BrightBlue by Schlage satisfies the market need for an easy-to-use, lower priced, web-based system for customers with 1-32 doors and up to 5,000 cardholders. With no special software or dedicated PCs needed, installation is simple. Users just connect the panel to the network and a power source and it’s ready to go. Likewise, training takes only hours, not days.

The new BrightBlue by Schlage system will be introduced at the ISC West Conference to be held in the Sands Convention Center, April 2-4, Booth #21045.
