Zalud’s Blog just finished a solid book that all chief security officers should read. American psychiatric organizations on both sides of the country have turned their attention to the new book "Hunting The American Terrorist" by Terry D. Turchie and Dr. Kathleen M. Puckett.

In Miami Beach, the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law recommended the book to its membership at its 38th annual conference held October 18- 21st. The Academy, a worldwide organization of psychiatrists, is dedicated to excellence in the practice and teaching of forensic psychiatry.

In San Francisco, the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute has invited Dr. Puckett and Mr. Turchie to lecture to its prestigious body on December 3rd. The lecture, to be entitled "Hunting The American Terrorist-the FBI's War on Homegrown Terror," will be a discussion of their book which is an inside view of the last two years of the FBI's pursuit and capture of the notorious Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, followed by an analysis of the psychological makeup of ten of the most dangerous terrorists in American history. The latter is based on recently de-classified and previously unpublished material, a feature singular to "Hunting The American Terrorist." The Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute is part of the University of California, San Francisco.

Terry D. Turchie was the FBI Unit Director who was brought in from counterintelligence to head up the pursuit of Mr. Kaczynski who successfully eluded capture for sixteen years. Mr. Turchie changed the investigative procedure which resulted in the terrorist's capture in twenty four months. He was also prominent in the pursuit of several other terrorists including Eric Robert Rudolph and Osama Bin Laden before 9/11. He was the recipient of the Attorney General's Award For Distinguished Service and the FBI' Director's Award.

Dr. Kathleen M. Puckett, also brought in from counterintelligence, was an FBI Special Agent and a clinical psychologist for the counterterrorism unit. She was a founding member of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Program, and she too, was the recipient of the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service.
