Dayton Children’s Hospital is set to deploy new gunshot detection technology. The technology comes as part of the hospital’s overall safety strategy. Sensors will link across the hospital’s different locations to pinpoint the exact location of gunshots and alert public safety.

Healthcare facilities, as well as other public venues and workplaces, face increasing threats of violence. Similar gun detection technology has been implemented in other sectors — such as schools — as threats rise. 

The system reacts during an active shooter event (indoor or outdoor) by using its sensors to capture energy levels with acoustic characteristics and analysis. The analysis results determine whether or not further captured event signal examination is needed and what other system actions to initiate. The system works alongside technology already in place at the hospital including cameras, a video management system, access control, a mass notification system and various public address systems.
