According to Johns Hopkins University, nearly one-third of the calls coming into its Office of Campus Safety and Security are incidents related to mental health crises.

Due to the high rate of mental health calls, the University decided to pilot a new program to better equip its campus officers.

Starting this fall at the University's Homewood campus, campus safety and security officers will be paired with a member of the behavioral health crisis support team.

In partnership with Baltimore Crisis Response Inc., Johns Hopkins will have Baltimore Crisis Response Inc.'s crisis teams respond to mental-health-related calls. Behavioral health support responders will work with students before and even after a call if necessary.
