Comcast Security Director Named Interim Secret Service Head
The Secret Service has named Joseph Clancy, director of corporate security at Comcast, as acting interim director.
He previously served as the head of the intelligence agency’s presidential protection unit until 2011 before joining Comcast.
"As an interim acting director of the Secret Service, I am appointing Joseph Clancy, formerly Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division of the Secret Service," said Jeh Johnson, the Secretary of Homeland Security. "Mr. Clancy retired from the Secret Service in 2011. I appreciate his willingness to leave his position in the private sector on very short notice and return to public service for a period."
At Comcast, Clancy was responsible for protecting company staff and assets and corporate investigations. The company’s website also mentions that his role included helping with public policy development.
“During more than three years at Comcast, he was an integral part of our security team and we are sad to see him leave,” Comcast said in a statement cited by the Washington Post. “We are highly confident he will be an outstanding interim leader for the Secret Service and we wish him the very best.”
