The Security Leadership Research Institute (SLRI), the research arm of the Security Executive Council, has released the Corporate Security Organizational Structure, Cost of Services and Staffing Benchmark, the first major deliverable from the Institute’s unprecedented security-centered research efforts. The report presents findings on security budgets, security workforces, program structure, drivers and governance.

The SLRI’s mission is to use its independent research results to build a resource that will provide security-related benchmark data of value to organizations of all sizes in all industries—something unavailable from any other research organization. Individuals responsible for risk oversight in their businesses or agencies may use the Corporate Security Organizational Structure, Cost of Services and Staffing Benchmark to learn more about where their organizations stand in comparison with others.

A few highlights from the benchmark findings:

  • The average security budget per organization employee was $249.
  • The average security budget as a percentage of organization revenue was 0.07%.
  • On average, respondents reported one security employee for every 99 organization employees.
  • The report also includes information about staffing structure, programs managed, program drivers, corporate governance and risk oversight.

Research participants will be receiving their copy of the full report this month. Non-participants can download an executive summary of the report at https://www.securityexecutivecouncil.com/spotlight/?sid=26697 , or visit the Council’s Leadership Store to purchase the full report.
