The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department conducted an "Operation PCID" theft prevention program on Oct. 12 at Cabell Library. Students registered their laptops with police, who recorded serial numbers and other identifying information in a database for easier recovery if the laptop is lost or stolen.

Students who participated were eligible to win free LoJack for Laptops theft recovery computer software, which helps police track, locate and recover stolen computers.

Police said more than 550 students have registered their laptops so far this semester
