Anixter announced the unveiling of its new cabling infrastructure assurance program, Anixter ipAssured(SM). Developed by extensive testing and research from Anixter's Infrastructure Solutions Lab, Anixter ipAssured provides recommendations to match cabling infrastructure to the anticipated life of the applications that customers require to secure and support their business. Anixter will host a webcast on October 27, 2009, at 11 a.m. CST to educate customers and key industry personnel on the details and benefits of the first phase of the program which focuses on matching the best infrastructure to the user's physical security applications to ensure maximum lifespan and ROI of the infrastructure. The company also plans on launching subsequent phases of the Anixter ipAssured program around networking and industrial automation requirements.

An enterprise's cabling infrastructure is the foundation of its communications network. As more devices are taking advantage of IP transport and Ethernet cabling, organizations may not realize the cabling infrastructure should provide the much needed uptime and performance to support a number of physical security systems such as video surveillance and access control. Anixter developed Anixter ipAssured as a response to the need for organizations to have the best possible cabling infrastructure to support current needs and future requirements. With 50 percent of network problems attributed to the cabling system, Anixter ipAssured helps to minimize network downtime by ensuring the correct and best investment is selected up front.

Anixter's October 27th webinar will cover the business drivers that will help companies make smart choices that will extend the life cycle of cabling infrastructure to meet current and future security applications. As an infrastructure assurance program that matches the cabling infrastructure to its equipment, Anixter ipAssured is linked to the technical, application and life cycle requirements of the user. Based on results from testing conducted in Anixter's Infrastructure Solutions Lab, Anixter's ipAssured cabling recommendations are separated into three distinct classes--IP Class 1+, IP Class 5+ and IP Class 10+.

The evolution of Anixter ipAssured is rooted in Anixter's dedication to technical expertise and standards development. As the creator of Levels in the late 1980's, the first UTP cable performance specification which later became the TIA/EIA Categories, Anixter maintains a strong commitment to technical innovation and process development. Anixter's technical staff continues this heritage of innovation by participating in numerous industry and standards organizations, including the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF), the Green Grid and the U.S. Green Building Council.
