AI Leaders Warn UN the Technology Could Be a Risk to Humanity
World leaders are meeting at the United Nations (UN) to discuss an array of issues, including that of artificial intelligence (AI).
Notable leaders in the AI space spoke, pushing for UN leaders to establish controls over the technology that continues to accelerate and proliferate.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said, “If managed poorly, I even believe AI could be a risk to humanity as a whole.”
“We could lose control of the future to AI,” added Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump asserted that the United States “totally rejects” attempts to rein in the technology, calling these efforts a “globalist scheme.”
“Whoever wins AI... wins,” Trump stated.
However, AI leaders called for the UN to ensure the power of AI is not monopolized by a single company or country.
Trump also insisted on changing the name of AI to “super intelligence," then compared concerns over AI’s risks with concerns over global warming, suggesting both to be hoaxes.
