Man Falsely Impersonates Officer, Threatens Security Guard
A Florida man was arrested after allegedly impersonating an officer and threatening a security worker for a gated community.
Freddy Hidalgo, 64, reportedly drove to the entrance of the gated community but failed to produce a working vehicle barcode for entry. Hidalgo then became agitated, claiming to be a police officer and threatening to arrest the security guard.
Hidalgo proceeded to follow the guard into the guardhouse, insisting the gate be opened. The guard told police Hidalgo had shown a badge to imply he was a police officer.
According to the guard, Hidalgo's actions caused him to fear for his life. The guard reached out to a supervisor, and in the midst of the conversation, Hidalgo again claimed he was an officer and required access to the community. Hidalgo then activated the gate, entered his vehicle, and drove inside.
Law enforcement later approached Hidalgo at his home, where Hidalgo denied the allegations and asserted he was a federal worker. He then admitted he was an electrician at the VA. Law enforcement officers found a small badge shield in his wallet, possibly the one shown to the security guard, which read “Detective Brother.”
Hidalgo has been charged with false impersonation of an officer.
