Department of Homeland Security Investigating a Data Breach

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it is investigating a data breach involving an information-sharing network. The department stated a recent cyber event had impacted unclassified, legacy information within this data-sharing environment.
Partners in this data-sharing platform include:
- Local authorities
- Foreign law enforcement
- Other organizations
The platform enables document sharing, web conferencing, real-time communication, alerts, and more. It also supports partners in trading information on persons of interest and potential threats.
According to Nextgov/FCW, who broke the news on June 30, the intrusion is believed to have begun between late May and early June. Furthermore, this incident coincides with the United States supervising security efforts for the World Cup, raising concerns that the malicious actors may have gathered insights into interagency collaboration, security planning, or incident response protocols in relation to the event.
