The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approved a compulsory process regarding investigations involving artificial intelligence (AI). AI has been used for fraudulent attacks including phishing and deepfakes.

The FTC will be able to issue civil investigative demands, similar to a subpoena, to companies offering AI services. The FTC defines AI as machine-based systems that can, for a set of defined objectives, make predictions, recommendations, or decisions influencing real or virtual environments.

The FTC will use this process to investigate fraud involving AI created by various organizations.
