The Federal Commission on School Safety (Commission) has released a 177-page report detailing 93 best practices and policy recommendations for improving safety at schools across the country.
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission recommended that teachers who volunteer and undergo extensive background checks and training be allowed to carry concealed guns on campus to stop future shootings.
The fourth edition of the guidelines is completely revised and greatly expanded to now cover best practices on a district-wide level that relate to safety and security and additional areas such as school transportation, cybersecurity and network infrastructure, architectural features and emergency communications.
Middle and high school students feel safer with security officers and a moderate level of security camera use outside of their schools, but a greater deployment of cameras inside school buildings makes them feel less safe, according to a school climate survey of more than 54,000 students from nearly 100 schools in Maryland, published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.
People who were bullied at work were 59 percent more likely to develop heart disease or related diseases. Employees exposed to workplace violence were 25 percent more likely to develop heart disease or related diseases.
Police allege that a fired Chicago Public Schools employee took a personal database of about 70,000 people contained in a CPS private database with her.
“We wanted a partner who would look out for us as a district,” says Ron Ehlers, WCHS Network Administrator. “We wanted to invest in a futureproof system that could grow along with us.”
