US commits $457 million to Ukraine security assistance

The United States has announced an additional $457.5 million in civilian security assistance to Ukraine to aid Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and criminal justice organizations. With the funding, the U.S. aims to assist operational continuity within law enforcement in Ukraine during the Russian invasion of the country.
According to a press statement by U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, the United States has committed more than $645 million in assistance to Ukraine since December 2021.
The National Police of Ukraine (NPU) and State Border Guard Service have benefitted from aid and aim to continue protecting civilians in cities experiencing armed conflict.
This aid comes at a time of continued physical warfare and cyberattacks on Ukraine by Russia. According to a statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian intelligence officials believe Russia is planning large-scale cyberattacks on critical infrastructure in the country, including attacks on the energy sector.
A portion of this new assistance will also continue U.S. support for the Ukrainian government’s efforts to document, investigate and prosecute atrocities perpetrated by Russia’s forces.
